New fishing season coming up!

Here in Iceland the fishing season starts formally 1st of April, so there are only few days until the season starts.

There is still a small ice on most of the lakes but the winter is fading away so we are rather optimistic for the upcoming season. The lakes close to Reykjavik, like Vifilsstadavatn is almost ready.

There are few lakes that are open all year like Gíslholtsvatn and Urriðavatn by Egilsstaðir. Baularvallavatn, Hraunsfjadarvatn and Saudlauksdalsvatn are open for fishing when the ice has melted.

For Icelanders, it is quite common that fishermen visit lake Vifilsstadavatn on the 1st of April, to see other fishermen and check the gear, since it is at the big Reykjavik area with easy access. Many fishermen wait until 20th of April when the brown trout fishing season starts in lake Thingvellir.

Nice brown trout

Simen Prestaasen and Frithjof Hald are Norwegian fishemen that likes to travel and fish. The went to lake Thingvallavatn yestarday in the National Park area. The weather was not kind to them but they managed.

They got one big brown trout each of them and that on the Norwegian independence day that was yesterday 17th of May.

Meðalfellsvatn again on the Fishing Card!

Meðalfellsvatn will be included in the Fishing Card 2018!
 
Veiðikortið has agreement with landowners of Meðalfellsvatn that allow cardholders of the Fishing Card 2018 to fish in the lake again.
In addition to this there will be no other season card available for the lake other than the Fishing Card.
 
The lake will open for fishermen first day of summer, that is upcoming 19th of April, next week! 
 
We are sure that many fishermen will be happy about this arrangement, since the lake has been quite popular recent years. 
 
Please note that fishing rules for Meðalfellsvatn will only be accessible on our website, since the brochure has already been printed.

2018

The char finally showing up!

Even though June has been quite nice, with rain and good weather between storms, it looks like the lakes are a bit colder than in an average year. Therefore the char is a bit late and finally we are seeing more of the char now at lake Þingvallavatn and Ulftljotsvatn. Upcoming weeks are in a way high season in the lakes since there is more fish around looking for something delicious to eat closer to the waterbank.
