Location:

Vatnsdalsvatn is located in Vatnsfjördur in Barðaströnd, in the North-Western Peninsula (Vestfirðir).
 

Distance from Reykjavík and the nearest township:

Distance from Reykjavík is 340 km.
Shortcut is possible by the ferry Baldur, sailing from Stykkishólmur to Brjánslækur, near Vatnsfjörður.
 

Practical information:

The lake is 2.2km2 and rises to 8m above sea level. The deepest point is at 30 m.
 

Fishing area: 

There are no restrictions, except for the mouth of several rivers, running in or out of the lake.
 

Accommodation:

Camping by the lake is not allowed but camping site is located at Hótel Flókalundur, about 2 km away and Brjanslækur, 8 km away.
 

Fishing potential:

Arctic char is prevalent, about 1-3 pounds, seatrout and occasional salmon might also be caught.
 

Daily opening hours: 

From 07:00 am – 11:00 pm
 

Season:

May 1st to September 20th.
 

Bait:

All bait is allowed: fly, worm and lure.
 

Best time of the year:

Peak season is from mid June – mid August.
 

Rules: 

Littering and off-road driving is forbidden. Cardholders must sign up at Brjanslaekur and show both the Veiðikortið and an appropriate ID. Children under 14 are allowed for free, if accompanied by adult cardholder.
